Mobilisas Defense ID secures "The Last Frontier"

Mobilisa announced today that its Defense ID security system has been integrated at Fort Richardson, Fort Wainwright and Elmendorf Air Force Base, each located in the state of Alaska. Having won the competitive bid process, Mobilisa was chosen to provide these military bases with new access control security systems.

There are a number of other installations which are also working with Mobilisa to incorporate the Defense ID system into their security screening procedures, said Mark Hazard, Fort Richardson anti-terrorism officer. We have already realized a number of successes since the fielding of the scanners at the gate, including the detection of both barred and driving privileges suspended/revoked personnel attempting to access or drive on the installation.

Elmendorf Air Force Base, adjacent to Anchorage, is the largest Air Force installation in the state of Alaska and home of the headquarters, Alaskan Command, Alaskan NORAD Region, Eleventh Air Force (11 AF), and the 3rd Wing.  Fort Wainwright is located in Alaskas interior region adjacent to Fairbanks, and the major unit stationed at the fort is the 1st Brigade, 6th Infantry Division (Light). United States Army Alaska is headquartered at Fort Richardson, and the base is also home to the new 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne) and 25th Infantry Division.

This system will vastly increase the ability of guards to detect capability of unauthorized persons, including people barred from the base or suspended from driving, said Air Force Lt. Col. Paul Story, 3rd Security Forces Squadron commander, Elmendorf Air Force Base.

Mobilisas Defense ID uses a rugged, handheld scanner to quickly and accurately read information electronically stored on identification cards presented at points of entry. The information read from the identification cards is instantaneously compared to over 100 databases of individuals who are wanted for criminal offenses or who are otherwise barred from military installations.  Because Defense ID works with United States military identification cards, state and Canadian provincial driver licenses, passports, smart cards and other forms of government identification cards, bases utilizing the system do not need to issue or create special badges, which can be a major cost savings.

Defense ID is credited in helping security personnel identify and prevent over 50,000 unauthorized individuals from gaining entry onto over 50 military and federal installations around the Nation.
