Homeland Security Will Create a Big Market in Korea

Government-wide cooperative was launched to facilitate the homeland security industry in Korea.

Homeland security is an umbrella term for security efforts to protect states against terrorist activity. Specifically, is a concerted national effort to prevent terrorist attacks within the U.S., reduce America¡¯s vulnerability to terrorism, and minimize the damage and recover from attacks that do occur. The term arose following a reorganization of many U.S. government agencies in 2003 to form the United States Department of Homeland Security after the September 11 attacks.
The term Homeland Security is rather new to Korea as it is to many other countries. The size of the global homeland security market was US$74 billion in 2012 and is expected to grow to US$96 billion. The fast-growing homeland security market, an application that integrates IT and physical security technologies, has become a very attractive market not only to the Korean government but also to the private business sector in Korea.
In line with the market trend, the Korean Ministry of Knowledge Economy has launched the ¡®Council for Homeland Security Export¡¯ in cooperation with government agencies, associations and media including Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), Korea Defense Industry Trade Support center (KODITS), Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI), Knowledge Information Security Industry, Korea Information Technology Service Industry Association (ITSA), Korea Digital CCTV Research Association, Korea Association of RFID/USN Convergence and online security daily BOANNEWS.
In addition, homeland security will be a key topic of SECON Exhibition & Conference 2013 (SECON 2013) coming up on March 16-18, 2013, in Seoul, Korea. SECON 2013 is the Korea¡¯s largest and Asia¡¯s leading security event sponsored by the Korean Ministry of Knowledge Economy, the Korean Ministry of Public Administration and Security and the Korean Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs.
As non-military threats such as cyber and physical terrors are becoming diverse in type and growing in speed, international regulations related to homeland security are increasing in developed Western countries such as the U.S. and Europe.
The U.S.A. is fostering its homeland security industry and the EU has been pushing forward with the strategies to expand investment into homeland security R&D projects since 2007.
In Korea, as threats against facilities, networks, venues and men are increasing and becoming complex, advanced security solutions which utilize IT technologies to detect, analyze and respond to security threats are in growing demand. Therefore, the Korean government is actively introducing government-wide projects to bolster its homeland security industry.

SECON Exhibition & Conference 2013 (SECON EXPO 2013) is the ideal venue to learn about the latest trends in security technology and showcase your innovative products and market leadership.
With the participation by diverse security players from key Asian countries and its location based in South Korea famous for high-tech innovation, skilled workforce, business-friendly infrastructure and, most importantly, strong government¡¯s commitment to becoming a global hub for the security industry, SECON EXPO 2013 has been recognized as the most preferred destination for security companies looking to increase their presence and expand their business in Asia.
Plus, SECON EXPO 2013 provides the best single-source opportunity to have access to the Korean & Asian security market and commensurate networking with Asian players. Across three days, March 6-8, 2013, over 300 market leading companies will be on hand at SECON EXPO 2013 to discuss your specific requirements, and offer tailored support and advice.
SECON EXPO 2013 will be held from March 6-8, 2013, at the Korea International Exhibition Center (KINTEX), South Korea.
