Keith Weaver appointed USO Chief Operating Officer

The USO has appointed Keith T. Weaver II as the organizations first chief operating officer.

Keith T. Weaver, COO of the USO

As COO, Weaver will plan and manage the day-to-day activities of the organization, including its centers and mobile canteens worldwide. Prior to accepting this position, the Florida native was USOs Senior Vice President, Operations. He led the expansion of USO programs and services throughout Southwest Asia and strengthened the base of USO facilities in Europe, the Pacific and throughout the U.S.

"When we decided to create the COO position, there was one clear choice- Keith Weaver," said Edward A. Powell, USO president and CEO. "For more than four years, Keith has been instrumental in the expansion and success of the USO. We appreciate his commitment to supporting our men and women in uniform through service with the USO."

"I am honored to be a part of an organization that does so much for the men and women serving this country," said Weaver. "The power of giving back is what the USO is all about. The work of the USO is not based on politics. Rather, our mission is to attend to the needs of American troops who are sent in harms way. We have done this for 66 years, and I expect that we will be needed for years to come."

Keith T. Weaver II was commissioned in the U.S. Navy in 1976, and was designated a Naval Flight Officer (NFO) in March 1978. Over the course of his 24-year career in the U.S. Navy, Weaver served as:

  -- Patrol Plane Tactical Coordinator/Mission Commander, Patrol Squadron
     Eleven, NAS Brunswick, Maine;
  -- Flag Aide to the Commander, Navy Recruiting Command;
  -- Assistant Combat Direction Center Officer/Tactical Action Officer, USS
     CORAL SEA (CV-43);
  -- Operations Officer, Patrol Squadron Twenty-Three, NAS Brunswick, Maine;
  -- Aviation Training Requirements Officer, Chief of Naval Operations, Air
     Warfare (OP-05);
  -- Commanding Officer, Patrol Squadron Twenty-Three, NAS Brunswick, Maine;
  -- Navy Military Assistant to the Executive Secretary, Office of the
     Secretary of Defense;
  -- Deputy Executive Secretary, Office of the Secretary of Defense;
  -- Commander, Patrol Wing Eleven, NAS Jacksonville, Fla. and
  -- Special Assistant for Weapons Systems Acquisition Policy, Office of the
     Assistant Secretary of Defense (Legislative Affairs).

Weaver holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, Md.; a Master of Science in International Relations from the Naval War College, Newport, RI; and a Master of Arts in Management from Salve Regina College, Newport, RI. In addition, he is a graduate of the Senior Officials in National Security program from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University, Syracuse, N.Y. He is a member of the Board of Directors, Military Officers Association of America (MOAA), and a life member of the U.S. Naval Academy Alumni Association.
