Technology to reduce spread of micro organisms from laying hands on hand reader platens

Ingersoll Rand Security Technologies announced that it is using an advanced plastic technology to reduce the spread of micro-organisms from organizations deploying all recently-ordered Schlage HandKey readers for security applications and Ingersoll Rand HandPunch terminals for time and attendance purposes.

A special silver-based material, using BioCote¢ç silver anti-microbial technology, is embedded into the plastics used to create the platens on the biometric hand geometry units, providing a hygienic finish that resists bacterial degradation and reduces bacteria levels on the reader¡¯s surface.

¡°This high-tech material reduces a concern of some people when it comes to using hand geometry biometrics,¡± reports Jon Mooney, general manager of the biometrics unit for Ingersoll Rand Security Technologies.  ¡°Our hand readers are now specifically designed with bacteria reduction in mind.¡±

BioCote Limited, the market leader in the field of anti-microbial technology, developed the antimicrobial technology used in the handreaders.  The active agents in BioCote¢ç products are incorporated during the manufacturing process and remain active for the life of the biometric reader to protect it from degradation.
